Introduction

This application can be used by SharePoint administrators to explore their SharePoint farms. It also enables them to create some reports against the farm SharePoint applications and site collections.

History

This application started as a tool to get information about the users in SharePoint farm. It has then evolved to produce different kinds of reports and provide more SharePoint data broader than just users. It also has a command line component to it. I have carried over the command line component in this version however I haven't tested it yet. You can check the older versions at my other project SharePoint Developers & Admins

Requirements

This application has to run from one of the SharePoint servers in the farm because it uses the SharePoint Object Model to communicate with SharePoint. It also requires running the application with elevated privileges. The following is the summary of the software requirements:

• SharePoint Server 2007, 2010 & 2013
• Run the application with elevated privileges
• Run the application with a farm admin
• 1 - 2 GB of RAM

What can we do with this application?

Here is a list of things can be accomplished with SP User Manager:

• Explore the SharePoint applications in the farm and their site collections
• Explore the properties of the following objects:
  • Local farm
  • SharePoint application
  • Site collection
  • Site collection admin
• Get a list of the unique users accessed a site collection, a group of site collections, or the entire farm
• View audit logs for each site collection:

• Generate the following reports:
  • Report the list of users accessed you site collections
  • Report the list of site collections in the farm with their site administrators information
  • Report the list of site collections in the farm and their storage consumption information
  • Report the list of site collections in the farm and the last modified date for each
  • Report the list of site collections, sites, lists and items that has assigned permissions for the 'NT AUTHORITY\Authenticated users' domain group
  • Report the list of site collections in the farm and the last date the site collection was ever accessed by a user:

• Perform the following actions to the farm:
  • Increase the site collection quota with a certain value when they reach the warning limit

• Fixed few reported\known bugs
• Enabled the wait cursor as an indication of the program is busy performing operations
• Detect if the application is running with admin privileges or not:

• View audit logs for each site collection
• Generate the following new report:
  • Report the list of site collections in the farm and the last date the site collection was accessed by a user
